WINSTON SALEM, NC (MMD Newswire) October 10, 2012 -- What would YOU do with $150,000? How would you pay if forward? Now imagine putting this money into the hands of a group of teenagers!

More than 200 high school-aged youth from across North Carolina will come together to attend the Seventh Annual North Carolina Youth Giving Summit. The Summit will occur on October 13th at the Winston-Salem Marriott (425 North Cherry Street) from 10:00am - 4:00pm.

Entitled "The POWER Of Giving", the Summit is designed to prepare how and where these high school students will grant over $150,000 to help their communities. The funds have been donated from philanthropic organizations across the state and will be entrusted to these youth for allocation. The planning and training for the decision-making is taking place, but actual decisions on how to spend the money will take place in individual communities later in the year.

The North Carolina Youth Giving Network (NCYGN) is a statewide collection of 25 different youth philanthropy sites, from as far East as Jacksonville (Onslow County) to as far West as Cherokee (Murphy County). Leading To Change, a nationally recognized training organization based in Charlotte coordinates the NCYGN.

NCYGN members at the Youth Giving Summit will learn strategies to assess the needs of their communities, techniques to effectively facilitate meetings, and methods to further develop resources in their communities. Community leaders and churches selected youth from their areas that are committed to giving back to the community for participation in the Summit.

The 2012 Summit draws youth and adults from throughout North Carolina, including Forsyth, Guilford, Wilkes, Jackson, Onslow, Murphy, Robeson, and Davie Pamlico Counties.

This Summit marks the only annual convening of all of these counties for youth philanthropic efforts.
