WINNERS OF THE 2006 GIULIO GARI FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL VOCAL COMPETITION HONORED NOVEMBER 17TH AT NEW YORK CITY’S PLAYER’S CLUB WITH GALA AWARD SHOW
The annual Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition, now in its 3rd year, was established to reward young singing talent with scholarships and featured public performances November 6, 2006 -- New York City, NY -- The Giulio Gari Foundation will be rolling out the red carpet at the Player's Club for the 3rd Annual Giulio Gari Foundation Gala slated for Friday, November 17th. This year the Foundation will continue to honor the opera community along with this year’s winners and aspiring young classical singers in its annual presentation of scholarship awards and very special performances.
The Internationally renowned Metropolitan Opera star Samuel Ramey as well as opera legends Licia Albanese and Mignon Dunn will be honoring the winners. “The Giulio Gari Foundation is dedicated to nurturing and promoting classical singers as they launch their professional musical careers,” stated Gloria Gari founder and chairman of the foundation. “We do so by awarding scholarships to those who are judged the best of the best performers from our International Vocal Competition. We introduce the winners to the public as well as to mentors each year beginning with the Foundation’s Gala. In doing so it is building on the legacy of the beloved tenor Giulio Gari, who helped and encouraged young singers throughout his long illustrious career.” Giulio Gari was one of the most versatile and beloved artists to have graced international opera and concert stages. A leading tenor, he sang a broad operatic repertoire of more than fifty-five lyric and dramatic roles. Giulio was a highly regarded member of the New York City Opera (1945-52) as well as the Metropolitan Opera (1953-61). Audiences remember him for his remarkable vocal and musical talent and for his dramatic performances; colleagues admired him for his talent, but also for his friendship, generosity, and kindness.
”Each year the art community looses more and more government support and funding,” says Daniel Schneider, General Counsel for the Giulio Gari Foundation. “As a result, more programs are cut from schools, fewer recital opportunities exist, and those seeking a career in the arts are finding it increasingly difficult to do so. This Foundation’s work assists in opening opportunities in the arts for aspiring classical singers by providing scholarships and public performances.”
Please reserve this evening to celebrate opera on your social calendar. This year’s benefit will take place at The Player’s Club, 16 Gramercy Park South, New York, New York at 6 PM. Tickets are $175.00 and all proceeds will go to the Giulio Gari Foundation to support dedicated classical singers. Suggested dress for the evening is business attire; black tie is optional. Beverages will be served along with a light “buffet” following the award ceremony.
