Long Island City, NY (September 14, 2007) – Blue Streak Wines & Spirits holds its grand opening Wednesday, September 19, 2007. Jan Shrem, the owner of Clos Pegase winery in Napa Valley, California, will host a vibrant & humorous presentation on art and wine, entitled: “Bacchus the Rascal, A Bacchanalian History of Wine Seen Through 4,000 Years of Art” answering such questions as: When and where was the grape born? Who was the woman believed to have discovered wine? Who was Bacchus before he was promoted to god of wine? What aromatic compound in wine stimulates the libido? And more. He will show over 100 wine-related images from such artists as DaVinci, Rembrandt, Dali, Picasso, and Chagall, and finish with a contemporary homage to wine. The presentation has been given hundreds of times, including at the National Press Club in Washington, had to be repeated four times at the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco and the California Club in Los Angeles, and was hailed by Nobel Prize winner Dr. Stanley Cohen of Stanford University. “My store,” Blue Streak owner, Stephen Spiller said, “is focused on the business of selling a broad array of exceptional wines and spirits in a contemporary atmosphere that perfectly blends with fascinating art works. After all,” he continued, “wonderful wine is a work of art. And, just as I think there are many, many fabulous but undiscovered wines, I believe many very, very talented artists aren’t yet well know or widely exhibited as they should be. So, I love the idea of providing unique alternative space.” Sandra Bloodworth, Long Island City-based artist will be the first artist showing oil paintings focusing on food and wine at intimate meals shared with family and friends.
Blue Streak also has frequent wine tastings, plans for wine classes, wine dinners, and discussions on art and wine. Store hours are: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday – Friday. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
