When You Go On Vacation, “Host Family” Pet Boarding Service Sends Your Pets’ On Vacation, Too
San Diego, CA -- People who travel either on vacation or business are often in a quandary over how their pets are doing back home. Dropped off with friends, boarded in kennels, or simply left in the backyard with visits from a caretaker, pets can encounter all manner of mishaps and stress while their owner is away.
"Pets often get very upset when their owner travels. Pets will worry themselves sick, chew their fur, become destructive and soil in ways they normally wouldn't. Owners often can't enjoy their trip because they're worried about how their pet is doing back home," says Pam Mathison, a veteran San Diego business owner and founder of Paws 'N Play Pet Camp.
Paws 'N Play uses an innovative network of local "host families" who are certified to host pets in their homes. Pets receive extraordinary attention in loving, almost plush surroundings. "We make sure cats have a wonderful soft place to sleep and a sunny window to watch the world. Dogs receive similar treatment with continuous loving play time." Mathison said.
Pets are walked frequently and sometimes taken on field trips to fenced parks and beaches. At all times, pet safety is a top priority with mandatory secure fences and plenty of adult supervision.
Pet vacations are a growth industry nationally as Americans travel more than ever. Additionally, Baby Boomers whose children have left the nest are embracing pets like never before. "Demand is so strong we're constantly working to add additional host families who are qualified to deliver our high standard of service," Mathison said.
Boarding kennels who are saddled with dozens, if not hundreds of pets can meet the nutritional and safety needs of a pet, but often fall short in caring for the pet emotionally. "Why should your pet go to jail when you go on vacation? We consider the emotional well being of the pet to be one of our most important concerns," Mathison said.
