VISIONARY BY WILDCHILD WEAR TO OFFER FASHION WITH A CONSCIENCE FOR TODAYS "GREEN" FASHIONISTA
October 05, 2007

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Wildchild Wear, the young girls’ and infant line favored by many of Hollywood’s famous offspring, has launched a new line with an eco-friendly flair. Visionary by Wildchild Wear offers up several styles for babies, kids, and for the first time, women.

Visionary will debut this November with a collection of approximately 25 styles, retailing from $36 to $62. About 50 boutiques nationwide have already ordered from the first delivery, and e-commerce is planned for the near future. All garments are made with velvety soft eco-friendly dyed organic cotton, with water-based screen prints. Tees will be emblazoned with positive slogans such as, “Love Will Save the Day,” “Green is the New Black,” “Save the World,” and “Let your Love Light Shine.” This concept is intended to raise awareness and provoke conversations while making being part of the solution stylish and appealing. All garments are printed inside with the “Visionary Creed,” a pledge to be a conscious participant in co-creating a world that works for everyone. The eco-conscious message doesn’t end there. The hangtag will be embedded with seeds that once planted, will bloom into bright, colorful wildflowers, and through a partnership with Trees for The Future, Wildchild Wear will plant one tree for each garment purchased.

Visionary was born out of owner/designer Magda Rod’s commitment to creating a healthy, sustainable environment for future generations. “As a mother, I’m constantly thinking ahead to what life will be like for my daughter in 20 years,” says Magda. “I see this new line as an opportunity to plant seeds of peace, love and compassion in the hearts and minds of our young ones.”

To complement the clothes, Visionary also plans to offer concept jewelry. The Visionary jewelry line includes charm necklaces and bracelets made with cruelty free faux-leather laces. The jewelry is fully customizable with charms such as a peace dove, heart and tree. Additionally, each necklace and bracelet features an amulet containing a blank scroll, on which one can write their own individual wish for themselves or the world.

An interactive component for the Visionary jewelry line called “Visionary Club” will be an on-line resource for kids and parents to gain inspiration while learning about how they can make a positive contribution to the world. The website will feature links to various organizations and charities Wildchild Wear is personally involved with, such as Co-op America, The Organic Trade Association, World Wildlife Fund, Environmental Defense, Heal the Bay and many more. There will be a section outlining different efforts the kids can make to start evoking change in their own lives, neighborhoods, or even across the globe. As an incentive, the children can log on to the website and submit their stories of what they are doing to help make the world a better place, and earn additional charms from Visionary to add to their necklaces and bracelets as proud symbols of their efforts.  Their stories and photos will be posted on the site as inspiration for others. The charms will also be available to purchase via the website and select boutiques.

Magda defines “Visionary” as one who sees a world that works for everyone, and is interested in being a part of making that world a reality. “How great would it be for our children to envision a positive future for the earth and all it’s inhabitants, and give them some tools to cultivate that vision,” says Magda.

Since it’s inception in 2000, Wildchild Wear has been a staple in high-end boutiques and department stores across the county. They’ve received an estimable amount of press, largely due in part to their strong celebrity clientele. Madonna’s daughter Lourdes has been photographed around the globe sporting Wildchild Wear, and additional fans include the daughters of Uma Thurman, Heather Locklear, Jerry Seinfeld, and Faith Hill to name a few. Wildchild Wear has always felt strongly about using only positive and uplifting images and messages in it’s clothing, so Visionary was a natural evolution for them.

Facts about buying organic cotton vs. non-organic clothing:
Globally, conventional cotton uses 25% of all insecticides, and 10% of all pesticides. In the U.S., it takes nearly a third of a pound of chemicals to grow enough cotton for one t-shirt. It is estimated that less than 10% of the chemicals applied to cotton are accomplishing their tasks, the rest are absorbed into the plant, air, soil, water and eventually, our bodies.
