TAMPA, Fla. (MMD Newswire) August 27, 2012 -- As part of the "Birdies for the Brave" event at TPC Tampa Bay, Verizon Wireless will feature its VGo robot for supporters and political VIPs (in town for the Republican National Convention) to connect live and offer well-wishes to "wounded warriors" treated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Powered by Verizon Wireless 4G LTE technology, the VGo allows highly mobile real-time hands-free connection for users. Used in educational and other settings, the device will travel guest to guest at Monday's event. On the other end of the connection, VGo can visit military personnel as they recuperate at home, take part in physical therapy or rest in their hospital rooms.

The "Birdies for the Brave" event also will feature check presentations from numerous organizations including the Verizon Foundation to various charities serving military families. More than $1 million has been pledged in conjunction with the event.

WHO: Event VIPs include Speaker of the House John Boehner, House Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon, and other national, state and local officials. In addition, CBS golf analyst David Feherty; PGA Tour member Billy Hurley, and Nashville recording artists Jenny Wayne, Janell Wheeler and Rachel Bradshaw are scheduled to attend and chat on the VGo with wounded vets at Walter Reed.
