Quantum Shift, Change Your Consciousness and Win Big Prizes The contest is entitled, Be the Change! Share the Story! School Video Contest. McTavish School students submitted a video story about their journey to reduce garbage by 80% at their school and how they ended up lobbying their local mayor and council to set up a soft plastic recycling depot. Many types of plastics that are still not accepted in recycling programes make up a large percentage of what goes into our landfill. Out of the 33 semi-finalists - McTavish School on Vancouver Island , is now one of the top 3 finalists in the Quantum Shift online video contest and they need our support & vote to win $50, 000.00 worth of goodies — including an organic garden for their school. These students have been making a significant difference in their school & community in the last few years. They compost and garden and in 2007 they persuaded Central Saanich School District to go idle-free at their schools. Vehicles that are not moving must shut off their engines while on school property. This saves the school district an estimated $10,000.00 per year.In 2008 they were recipients of a Capital Regional District Eco-Star Award for their community work.
MacTavish Elementary is being closed this year. " If they win this contest , MacTavish Elementary will be remembered even more so, as a school that exhibited great stewardship and embedded environmental awareness into their education system." I am so proud of the students, the parents ,the teachers and school administrators. No matter what, we are all winners" claims St. Amand. Please take a moment to vote. Deadline Friday , Midnight, May 30, 2008 .
