Rochester, NY -- February 4, 2008 -- The University of Illinois (www.uic.edu ) at Chicago has again chosen Reltronics Technologies (www.reltronicstech.com ) for expanding on their asset management system. Last year, while upgrading the facility, the University of Illinois had a choice to go for the traditional fiber-based asset management system or to a novel and wireless active RFID system offered by Reltronics Technologies that seamlessly monitors the assets based upon their location. They chose the latter.
Having implemented the first system in a 3-storey building in Grant Hall in the University of Illinois campus in Fall 2007, Reltronics Technologies had the right technology of choice for their next expansion for another asset management system.
The original system from Reltronics Technologies utilized more than a dozen antennas, readers, the SmartInstrument edgeware/middleware, and the ReALTrack-AMS, the asset management system to monitor fixed and moving assets adhered to metallic and non-metallic substrates. Suspicious movement or tampering of RFID tags on computers, laptops, podiums, wheeled trolleys, etc automatically triggers alarms directly to the police department within a matter of seconds
The configuration of the system is as follows. The ReALTrack-AMS resides on a server which has an elegant rules engine and multiple depreciation algorithms and authorizes users in the active directory for configuration. The ReALTrack-Web is a web-based interface which provides timely reports and timely refreshed data in real-time. It also is accessible to multiple users concurrently. The SmartInstrument edgeware/middleware acquires all the tag reads from the RFID readers, relays the alarms directly to the police department over the internet either in case of suspicious movement or tamper evidence. While notifying the University of Illinois police department, the SmartInstrument also logs the information into the ReALTrack-AMS application for real time tracking.
After a successful launch of the system in the entire building, Reltronics Technologies is now gearing to install the RFID system in another department within the University of Illinois with complete hardware, software, and an additional police notification system.
