Geophysicist Dr. Bob Benchoff explained today "The Sun heats the Earth, while other things for the most part typically cool the Earth relative to that solar heating. Planets in our Solar System have a hot side facing the Sun, and the other side is cool. Our Earth's hot core has relatively little to do with global warming. Due to the Earth rotating and revolving solar heat is distributed over the surface evenly. Yet due to the surface of the Earth having more land in the Northern Hemisphere, there is an important heating problem. Consider that if you have an ice cube and you use a flame to melt away half of the cube, yielding roughly half of the cool surface, then the cooling effect of that missing surface is gone. In another perspective, consider that you can heat a boulder or asphalt, and with enough heat it stays warm even through the night. As the Sun heats the surface of the Northern Hemisphere more, the Northern Hemisphere tends to heat the Earth even through the night and through winter, multiplying the heat factor."
