UMS-Angel Air Lands in Central Texas!
October 08, 2007

Georgetown, Texas (October 8, 2007) - United MedEvac Solutions, Inc. (d.b.a. UMS/UMS-Angel Air) now provides dedicated aero-medical fixed-wing aircraft equipped as mobile emergency care units to people whose lives depend on it.  UMS-Angel Air is privately-owned and operated with no affiliation to any one healthcare system or organization, this allows the program to offer air and ground ambulance transportation to a larger populous.

People who live in rural communities are twice as likely to die from a critical injury or illness as their counterparts who live in metropolitan areas, mainly due to the time it takes to access appropriate medical care.  In this case, aircraft can be deployed at a moment’s notice to evacuate patients putting them in touch with time-critical medical attention that would otherwise be unavailable.  With a flight range of 1100 miles and top speeds at 270 mph, the Angel Air fixed-wing ambulance program will now carry out lifesaver missions from the Georgetown Airport over outlying Central Texas healthcare communities including all connecting states.

Patients often require fixed-wing transportation because the destination is too far to travel by ground vehicles or helicopters.  DeDe Wilson, UMS-Angel Air’s President and CEO states “fixed and rotor-wing assets are vital toward enhancing access to healthcare in outlying areas.  In fact, they often compliment each other.”  As a lifelong clinician (RN) herself and mother of a special needs child with Cystic Fibrosis, Mrs. Wilson fully understands the need for prompt and accurate access to the most definitive healthcare.   She explains, “Fixed-winged aircraft are more economical and operate at a fraction of the cost, around 30% less.  UMS-Angel Air also has technical benefits over helicopters; we can fly greater distances at twice the speed and can take to the air above weather conditions that renders flights to every helicopter in the region or state inoperable.  Healthcare providers across the region have to understand there are now alternative solutions that play a part of their decision chain in moving patients.”

UMS-Angel Air is licensed at the Mobile Intensive Care (MICU) level for air and ground ambulance service.  All aviation activities are managed by EDS Flight Company, Inc. (EDS), a corporation wholly owned by United MedEvac Solutions.  As the owner/operators of UMS Angel Air’s fixed-wing Cessna and FAA Part 135 Certificate, UMS will also offer its aviation management services to organizations petitioning for their own fully dedicated programs.

UMS-Angel Air will staff 24/7/365 with specially trained critical care nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other specialist to support a wide range of lifesaver missions.  UMS-Angel Air embraces organ transplant and neonate/pediatric specialty crew as part of its team for its Specialty Transport Program.  Additional features include bedside to bedside care, critical care ground transport (CCT), commercial airline stretcher and medical escort service for ambulatory patients who require assistance and medical oversight.

United MedEvac Solutions made history in 2005 by creating the first very privately owned healthcare organization to provide advanced aero-medical helicopter personnel and helicopter hoist-rescue support for the Department of Defense.  UMS has supplied specialty healthcare experts to federal, state and local agencies ever since.  The company is still the only FAA Certified model to blend best commercial practices of air medicine with rigorous military standards and protocol.

As rural communities continue to grow, fixed-wing air ambulance transport will continue to have an increasing role of making those specialty care services more accessible to rural America.  Relief has finally arrived for the underserved citizens and healthcare organizations that require safe patient movement to improve health.  UMS-Angel Air has landed in Central Texas!
