THE WONDERFACTORY OPENS IN NEW YORK CITY TO CREATE ADDICTIVE
EXPERIENCES FOR SEVERAL HIGH-PROFILE WEBSITES

Former AOL/Modem Media Execs Open Agency to Cater to the Needs of Portals, Publishers and Advertisers

For Immediate Release (NEW YORK, NY, December 18, 2006) – It will be an outstanding start to 2007 for The Wonderfactory, a company creating new experiences and designs for marthastewart.com, thehuffingtonpost.com, and the world’s most popular medical information portal.  This, in addition to an already impressive client roster including nationalgeographic.com, with a new home page, Petstyle.com, the first broadband pet channel, and Vongo, a new movie download service owned by Starz Entertainment. Vongo has already been nominated for two Emmy Awards (www.vongo.com ).

Founders David Link and Joe McCambley have been creating addictive online content from the Web’s earliest beginnings. Joe was on the creative team (at Modem Media) that conceived and designed the first banner ad that ever appeared on the Web in October, 1994. In 1996 David was the lead creative on a website for Delta Airlines that became one of the first airline sites to gross $1 billion in ticket sales.

Link and McCambley came up with the idea to open their agency in 2003 while managing the internal creative staff at AOL, and leading what was perhaps the largest portal redesign effort in the history of the Web.

“We had 300 people on our staff, and that was half of what we needed to get all the work done,” said Joe McCambley. “We looked outside AOL for help and quickly realized that many ‘traditional’ web development shops weren’t set up to design large-scale portals like AOL.”

“Most agencies are good at creating short-lived ads or campaigns that convey a single-minded message,” added David Link, “but they’re not focused on how to create content for portals that bring people back every day, month after month. We knew then there was a need for a creative shop that could build habitual consumer behaviors for advertisers and portals.”

Joe Cantwell, VP Marketing Advanced Services at Starz Entertainment praised The Wonderfactory for its ability to drive traffic to the web. “These guys are out to redefine the role of ad agencies. I approached them to design Vongo.com in support of the launch of our new movie download service.  In the course of our discussions it became clear that Joe and David shared our vision and were very enthusiastic about the product.  Their concepts went beyond site design to a fully integrated approach using TV spots disguised as mini-movies, CD-ROMs, direct mail, online ads, and trade show promotions, all tied together and all designed to drive prospects to our site.”
