TUCSON, Ariz. (MMD Newswire) October 4, 2010 -- The Ride: In the Air & Through the Courts by Patti Day seeks to offer a story of one woman's survival through a plane crash and the subsequent justice system. "This book has heart and soul," says Day. "It has a quality of humanness because everyone can relate to something or knows someone hurt by injustice. Everyone has a story to tell."
Tina Morgan and her fiancé, Hunter, were returning from a perfect vacation when their plane suddenly shut down and crashed into the Mexican desert 10 minutes after takeoff. For the next 14 years, Tina would try to figure out what and how it all happened, heal mentally and physically as the sole survivor and seek justice in a court system that she discovers isn't always just. "What can one do when they feel that our justice system is not just? What can one do for a person that has saved their life? In either of these experiences, there are deep and lasting emotions," says Day.
The Ride, loosely based on actual events, is intended to navigate through these emotions and share how to move forward in life. "Every day, people die. Every day, people are saved and helped and pulled from planes and cars," says Day. "... I want to share my experiences with people so that they don't make some of the mistakes I made. I want them to succeed where I failed. I want them to triumph in the situations I was unable to understand."
Day's book was partially inspired by the words of author Michael Lewis of The Blind Side and The New New Thing, which includes this commentary on the justice system: "An American court of law is in many ways un-American" (W.W. Norton & Company).
