Innovative device makes it easier to go up and down steps, stairways and curbs, into and out of bathtubs.
Fargo, ND – February 25, 2008: Fargo, North Dakota-based EZ-Step, Inc. announces the debut of the Portable EZ-Step, a device that makes going up or down steps, stairways, and curbs easier and less painful for persons with limited mobility.
Some of the benefits of the Portable EZ-Step include: greater independence, a reduction in the range of motion (ROM) of the knee and hip which lessens muscular activity and the associated pain and discomfort. The Portable EZ-Step also encourages daily exercise, by reducing the stair height of each step by about 50%. It can also be used to get into and out of vehicles, tubs and navigating platforms. The EZ-Step has a wide, stable 4-point stance, so it can be used as a quad cane.
The University of North Dakota’s Physical Therapy Department conducted a comparative study of muscle activity and the range of motion (ROM) required to ascend and descend a normal stairway and the same stairway using the Portable EZ-STEP. The results showed a marked reduction in the amount of muscle activity required to both ascend and descend as well as marked reduction in the ROM required to use the Portable EZ-STEP on the stairway.
The Portable EZ-Step is constructed of rugged injection-molded ABS plastic and features an ergonomically designed soft rubber handle for a comfortable, secure grip. The non-skid tread surface on its feet makes for sure footing and the Portable EZ-Step has adjustable handle height at the press of a button. The handle is also reversible, for either right- or left-handed use. The Portable EZ-Step can be used on indoor as well as outdoor surfaces. It is very light (1.8 Pounds) and still supports up to 500 lbs. There are no moving parts to break or add weight. The Portable EZ-Step is also very affordable at $69.95.
The Portable EZ-Step is available at local medical supply stores or online. For a list of frequently asked questions, suggested applications, history, secure order form and video of the Portable EZ-Step in action, visit www.ez-step.com .
