The Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting the stewardship of Chesapeake Bay ecosystems and preserving the heritage of the Chesapeake Bay waterman.  Through educational programs, special events, and research projects, PWEC will enable the public—especially young people—to learn about the animals and plants of the Chesapeake, and how the Bay is affected by human activity and natural phenomena.  PWEC also provides “hands-on” demonstrations of how watermen harvest the Bay and the tools they use.  Numerous live exhibits at the Center allow visitors to see Bay animals and plants up close—even to touch them!  (Think of a Chesapeake petting zoo.)

Located at Phillips Wharf on Knapp’s Narrows, Tilghman Island, PWEC is the creation of Jerry & Kelley Cox.  Kelley is a Phillips, one of the traditional watermen families of Tilghman’s Island.

PWEC is young and needs your help

- Become a Volunteer   Help conduct educational events, take care of our animals and facilities, and represent PWEC at public events like the Waterfowl Festival.  Your involvement could be regular, part-time, seasonal, or occasional—and you don’t need to be an expert.  It would be fun and a great learning experience.

- Become a Member   Support PWEC through a financial contribution.  Annual memberships start at $25.00 and offer several benefits, including free admission.  Contact PWEC for details.

Become a Donor   The Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is now a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Educational Organization, so your donations are tax-deductible.

Support fundraising events   PWEC is sponsoring two Pit Beef Sandwich roasts in Easton this spring, on April 7th and May 5th.  Stop in at the home of Jean & Pat Morse 903 South Talbot Street St. Michaels, Maryland

Email PWEC at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it or call 410-886-2643.

PWEC is also holding a Clean up day on March 31st to help us prepare for the Season.
