The new source for eco- friendly, sweatshop free clothing launches with two hard-hitting Eco Tees

(mmd-news) - - The statement is more than just a screen print, it's a philosophy. Each shirt shares the values of the message. The first two designs we are launching to coincide with Earth Day 2006, April 22nd target environmental issues. The first examines the issue of T-Shirt production (left), the second examines our ecological footprint. These hard-hitting shirts are tagged with the provocative tag line Justify That, designed to start discussion this Earth Day.

The average T-Shirt is an environmental and ethical disaster from start to finish. More pesticides are used in the production of cotton than any other product. The death and serious health problems that workers in the cotton industry face are well documented. Cotton is also one of the most subsidized products in the USA and Europe, forcing the price of cotton down on the world stage, pushing the workers in the developing world into extreme poverty, as they cannot compete.

Growing the cotton is only half the story. The cotton is then bleached and dyed using harsh chemicals. The textile industry is famed for its sweatshops, where the cotton is woven and the garment is finished.

Perhaps the harshest chemicals yet have not been applied.  Standard screen printing methods involve using harsh chemicals, which also necessitates the use of caustic chemicals for cleaning up.

As if the shirt has not done enough damage, it often finds itself donated at some point to a charity that gives the garments in bundles to entrepreneurs in the developing world. These entrepreneurs flood the local markets with cheap clothing, it may sound humanitarian, but in countries such as Kenya has decimated the local garment industry.

Justify That clothing is made from organic unbleached cotton, produced in USA in a sweatshop free environment, and printed with low impact, non toxic inks. Whether the shirt ever gets donated and shipped to Africa is the consumer’s decision.

JustifyThat.com is encouraging consumers to submit ideas for future shirt designs on the JustifyThat.com web site. We will send a dozen free shirts for any ideas, we print. If you feel passionately about a topic, and want to start a discussion, what better way to start?
