The Funtastic Food Tracker Gets Dr. William Sears’ Seal of Approval

San Clemente, CA -- October 9, 2006 -- The Funtastic Food Tracker helps kids eat right and grow right. The Funtastic Food Tracker was created by two working moms who set out to find out what foods to feed their children and how to encourage their active participation in healthy food and lifestyle choices. Encouraged by renowned San Clemente pediatrician Dr. Sears, they developed a kid friendly, game-like magnetic board that charts the necessary food groups and activity level. Color-coded magnetic discs represent food choices that, when placed in the proper category, provide an at-a-glance summary of the child’s daily food intake.  Not enough green discs?  It means it’s time for more veggies!

“Kids sometimes think of the Food Tracker as a game in the beginning,” says Simonson.  “After awhile, they understand the value of healthy eating, but they still have fun tracking their food choices.  Our kids track their food choices, and it’s not uncommon for one of them to remind us ‘have another serving of grains’.”

What would you say if your son or daughter told you they had not yet consumed their daily nutritional requirements for fruits and vegetables?  What if they told you they needed two more servings of dairy?  It’s happening more and more as word of the Funtastic Food Tracker is spreading into kitchens across the country.  Parents in a test group of overweight, underweight and sedentary children reported improvements in their children’s food choices. They also noted an increase in activity during the test.

“Everyone knows that eating right is essential to a healthy lifestyle,” say creators Cindy Simonson and Donna Kruse.  “Why, then, are 16 percent of youth between the ages of 6 and 19 overweight or obese?”

Thankfully, the medical and educational professions have recognized this unhealthy trend and nutrition programs are being incorporated into elementary schools across the nation. School-based nutrition programs are good but, unfortunately, there’s a big gap in what a child learns in school and what happens at home,” says Kruse.   “Without direct parental involvement and daily interaction, good nutritional advice often falls through the cracks.  It’s no one’s fault.  It’s a fact of this fast-paced life.”

The Funtastic Food Tracker is designed to make good nutrition fun at home and at school.    The Funtastic Food Tracker is $19.99. It also includes a Parent’s Guide, Kid’s Guide and a Getting Started Card that explains how to determine daily serving amounts for each child.
