The FBombers, a central Florida women's roller derby team causes chaos at the Volusia County Fair
November 09, 2007

While at the Volusia County fair, promoting an upcoming event, the local women's roller derby team had to be warned by the Florida State Highway patrol to control themselves and not cause any chaos during the fair.  It seems that in their efforts to create public awareness of the event, the Jingle, Jangle Jam, to be held at the same fairgrounds December 15th and 16th, there were complains that they were blocking and skating (which is all part of roller derby) and causing a disruption in one of the exhibit halls. The state patrol, serving as part of the fair's security force, were summoned to the hall and addressed the situation, which was resolved and calm restored to the area.

Jerry Michael, Roller Trauma Productions, who is promoting the big weekend roller derby tournament had this to say.  "We are bringing women's roller derby back and in a big way.  We have invited eight women's teams to compete for $5000.00 in prize money.  Atlanta, Nashville, Tampa Bay, Birmingham and the central Florida FBombers will be there.

This was not disruptive, but one of the vendors felt that they were impeding the flow of fair traffic.  The roller girls obviously  were obviously drawing a huge crowd but were not a threat to anyone at that time.  However, when they get on the track, it then becomes a different story. Crashing, smashing and bashing are the job at hand and these ladies are very good at their job.  The local team, the FBombers are undefeated in their last two seasons, but are facing some tough competition in the JINGLE, JANGLE JAM in December.

I expect thousands of fans, whooping and hollering to be there for this heart-racing, blood-pumping spectacle. These ladies are awesome skaters and are as tough as they come.
