SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE PELOSI WINS AWARD
First Female Speaker Named “America's Most Outstanding Leader”

January 16, 2007: Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was named “America's Most Outstanding Leader ” for the month of January by the publisher of the on-line newsletter, New Political Review.com.

“Congresswoman Pelosi has been on our shortlist for some time now. We  knew that she would be elected  Speaker of the House and wanted this award to coincide with that historic moment,” said newsletter publisher, Anthony Mirabile. “She's been a dedicated, driven Congresswoman and she will make an effective, formidable Speaker. The time is exactly right for her fiery brand of decisive leadership.”

New Political Review.com is a nonpartisan newsletter. It’s mission is to reinvigorate the democratic process by presenting the best solutions to political problems. The newsletter publishes articles written by legislators and other civic leaders bi-monthly, on the 1st and the 15th.

Congresswoman Pelosi became the presumptive Speaker of the House – the first woman ever elected to that position – as a result of the 2006 mid-term elections. She was formally voted in on January 4, 2007. First elected to the House in 1987, Speaker Pelosi  has been re-elected with an overwhelming majority of the votes in ten consecutive elections. She served one year as House Democratic Whip in 2001 and was elected House Majority Leader in 2002.

The Pelosi-led 110th Democratic-controlled Congress has committed itself to the “Hundred-Hour Plan.” The plan is an aggressive policy strategy that pledges to pass specified legislation within the first 100 hours of the congressional calendar. It includes legislation to raise the minimum wage, lower student loan interest rates, fund stem cell research projects and eliminate deficit spending with a “pay as you go” rule.

According to publisher Mirabile, “Sometimes the best ideas come from Democrats and other times, they come from Republicans. New Political Review.com fairly represents the best of all those ideas. This month, we honor Speaker Pelosi, who has pledged to inaugurate a new era of nonpartisan efficiency.”

New Political Review.com will present Speaker Pelosi with a plaque to commemorate the award.
