Large crowd expected to attend the Police Permit hearing to voice their opposition to the strip club at Hamilton High School, January 28th, 2008, 7 pm.

Los Angeles – January 28, 2008 – “Preserve Our Neighborhood” signs can be seen on lawns and street corners throughout the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Castle Heights, Beverlywood, Reynier Village, La Cienega Heights, Regent Square, as well as bordering Culver City. The residents of the South Robertson area have been actively showing their opposition to a strip club that has temporarily opened its doors at the gateway of their neighborhoods.  

On Monday, January 28th, 2008, the community will finally have an opportunity to express their concerns at the Police Permit Review Hearing., scheduled as a result of significant community outcry. Hundreds of letters have been sent into the Police Commission from local residents over the last few months. A large crowd of concerned citizens are expected to attend the hearing and further voice their concerns about the club.

Over $8,500 has been raised to help fund legal support, lawn signs, flyers, and a website (www.norobertsonstripclub.com ) to raise awareness of the presence of the strip club and to gather support to force its closure.

The all-nude strip club, called SKIN, is located at 3388 South Robertson Blvd. The owners have been operating under a temporary permit since December. Because the club is all-nude, alcohol cannot be served and the age of entry is 18, the same age as many Hamilton High School seniors attending school just 1200’ away.

Community members oppose the strip club for the following reasons:

1- It is a Sexually-Explicit Business Close to Schools and Parks
The strip club has the potential to expose children to drug sales, lewd conduct, prostitution, violence, loitering, and drunkenness. Many Hamilton High students walk by the club on their way home from school every day. The club is also in close proximity to other neighborhood parks and schools. This area already suffers from known gang activity. Community members are concerned that the club might significantly increase that threat.

2- It Creates A Serious Traffic Hazard
The area around the Robertson on-ramp to the 10 Freeway is already congested and confusing. The community contends that the strip club’s additional traffic and distracting signage may pose a serious traffic and pedestrian hazard in the neighborhood.

3- It Hurts Neighborhood Revitalization
The community also contends that the strip club would pose a huge setback for economic redevelopment of the area, which is just beginning to attract new businesses, control crime and maintain property values. Community members were recently thrilled to welcome Dolce Isola, the Ivy Bakery, to their neighborhood and are concerned that the presence of an all-nude strip club will discourage similar high-end businesses from moving to the area. The club sits at the gateway to the South Robertson neighborhoods as well as recently revitalized Culver City.
