Scientific Systems Names Andrew Bennett Senior Director of Research

Woburn, Mass. -- Feb. 21, 2008 -- Scientific Systems Company, Inc., announces that Dr. Andrew Bennett has been named Senior Director of Research for the Woburn-based R&D firm.  Dr. Bennett will be responsible for strategic direction and commercialization strategies of SSCI’s advanced mission planning, autonomy, sensor exploitation, communications, decision support and control software technologies.  Dr. Bennett will report to SSCI founder and President, Dr. Raman K. Mehra.

“Dr. Bennett brings an important focus on products to the SSCI business model,” said Dr. Mehra.  “As we grow the company, we must place more emphasis on development and commercialization of our technological strengths in unmanned systems, information exploitation, and network-centric warfare.”

Dr. Bennett comes to SSCI after over 8 years at iRobot Corporation in Burlington, Mass., where he most recently served as Director of Research and Division Technology Officer for the Government & Industrial Division.  Prior to that, he was program manager responsible for initial development of iRobot’s highly successful military robot product line.  Before joining iRobot, Bennett was a research scientist at Walt Disney Imagineering R&D in Cambridge, Mass.  

Dr. Bennett has a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering design from Stanford University.
