The Texas Chapter of the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA-TX) is pleased to announce its annual banquet, honoring John (Jack) Cowen, outdoors and sporting artist, with a "Lifetime Achievement Award."  The banquet will be held on June 19 at 6:00 PM at the South Shore Harbour Hotel & Conference Center located at 2500 South Shore Blvd in League City, Texas.

The banquet will include a live and a silent auction of sporting art and fishing/hunting trips and equipment, as well as a variety of raffle items for guests. Because Cowan has painted both hunting as well as fishing themes over the years, members of other fishing and hunting groups (such as Ducks Unlimited and the Wild Turkey Federation) are also invited to attend.

Jack Cowan is recognized as a Texas preeminent and well-known wildlife and sporting artist.  Now 88 years old, he has captured Texas’ hunting and fishing scene for more than 50 years and his original paintings and limited edition prints are sought by collectors and sportsmen and are among the prized possessions of many art museums, such as Houston Museum of Fine Art.  His work has appeared as cover art and illustrations in such magazines as Fortune, Life, Look, Esquire, Sports Afield, and Outdoor Life.  He has been awarded two silver medals by the Houston Artists Guild, was named "Texas State Artist" by the Texas Legislature, as well as "Artist of the Year" by Ducks Unlimited in l977.

Proceeds of the banquet will be used to establish an art scholarship in Jack Cowan’s name, support artificial reef-building offshore Texas and to help RFA continue to fight for fishermen’s rights.
