Labor Leader Honored with a Quarter Million Dollar Statue and City Park Plaza

What: Former Illinois AFL-CIO President Reuben G. Soderstrom will be honored during a city wide Labor Day celebration in Streator, IL. Special dignitaries such as Mike Carrigan, President of the Illinois AFL-CIO will be in attendance and are schedule to speak during the plaza dedication ceremony.

Why: Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has announced Sept. 2, 2012 as Reuben G. Soderstrom Day. Reuben G. Soderstrom was a fundamental humanitarian who fought for the rights of the common man, helping to instate such laws as the 40 hour work week, workers compensation, women's 8 hour work day and many more

Who Should Attend: The event is open to the public-all are invited to attend the dedication ceremony and statue unveiling

When: Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 parade at 12 pm and Dedication Ceremony in city park at 1:30 pm

Where: Streator, Illinois in Streator's city park-parking available throughout the city
