ATLANTA, GA (July 3, 2008) – The Georgia 400 toll plaza , with approval from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, will get a much needed scrubbing on a quarterly basis to remove an accumulation of oil and grease beginning Monday, July 7.
Water used in the cleaning process will be reclaimed and recycled.
To ensure the least impact on the flow of traffic the six-day power washing will begin at 11 p.m. and end each day at 5 a.m. Three lanes are normally closed during those times so the impact on traffic is expected to be minimal. The northbound lanes will be cleaned first followed by the southbound lanes.
“The build up of grease and oil not only poses a safety threat but it could also be an environmental hazard if not removed on a regular basis,” says Georgia State Road & Tollway Authority (SRTA) Chief Operating Officer Terri Slack.
Ms. Slack said that chemicals used in the process are considered “green friendly.”
Schedules for the quarterly cleanings will be posted on the SRTA’s web site at www.georgiatolls.com.
