Reducing America's Addiction to Oil is the Goal of New $1Billion Research and Development Consortium What is it? The Research and Development Consortium is a group of companies working together to advance new infrastructure solutions through the development of a mixed-use research campus as part of a 66 city-block land assemblage. These solutions will provide a test bed for new technologies to be utilized by growing a residential and business population of 12,000.
Where is it? The R&D campus will be located within one mile of downtown Fort Collins CO, a university hamlet with a population of 128,000, named the best place to live by Money Magazine in July of 2006 and ranked number one by the SBA in entrepreneurial activity and innovation.
Getting Started The project will begin by marketing a $40 million Joint Venture proposal to start up 5 labs for alternative energy, engines, innovative transport, automation and robotics as an economic generator to attract research ventures These will grow a 5 million s.f campus of mixed use development in 25 to 50 new buildings that test distributed power generation, new ways of moving people and all kinds of new infrastructure.
An R&D Consortium According to the US Department of Energy, the transition away from oil will require trillions of dollars dedicated to the development of new technologies in alternative energy sources such as wind, solar and hydrogen and the infrastructure to deliver them. Thus the need for a wide-ranging and innovative research campus with labs devoted to developing and commercializing these new technologies. An R&D Consortium will grow along side the real estate project to commercialize these new technologies. As oil prices rise, everyone will be affected. Within ten years, oil may become so expensive that only the military, corporations and government will be able to afford it. Recycle 6.6 million square feet of airpark land assemblage into a five million square foot mixed use development project, around a Research Generator. The JV incubates the R&D Village by spending the funding on building the parkway, utilities, water, transport, guideway, broadband WiFi and other shared infrastructure. This will be used to attract companies to locate a field office, shop or lab at Airpark Village or the surrounding industrial area on the south side.
With the world running out of cheap and easy to access oil, the increasing costs will lead to huge disruptions of our economy. There are many solutions to this crisis including alternative energy and new modes of transport.
30 million will provide the basic economic generator shown on the following pages to attract a research industry to Airpark Village to develop systems and infrastructure that transition America away from its addiction to oil.
