Prize Television - A television fanfare for the common man
Hong Kong, 15 June 2007. Prize Television, a daring new venture in satellite broadcasting by Western-Eye Ltd, that promises to ruffle the feathers of the established satellite television broadcasting industry, will arrive in the Asia-Pacific region on 19 June 2007.
Prize Television is the precocious brain child of veteran television production guru Nick Shipley and satellite communications entrepreneur Vince Waterson who have joined forces at Hong Kong based television production company Western-Eye Ltd to launch in June 2007 at CommunicAsia in Singapore a new broadcast satellite television network expected to expand from a single channel this year to a bouquet of six channels by the end of 2008.
Nick Shipley, CEO of Western Eye (www.western-eye.com ) who has worked for major players in the satellite television market said “Our strength lies in our ability to forge strategic relationships with content and distribution players who see the potential in our simple concept which is ‘everyone likes to win a prize’ plus our patent pending technology capable of delivering bottom line figures which will be the envy of the industry”
Garie Pimintel, CEO of Mabuhay Satellite Corporation (www.mabuhaysat.com ), a strategic partner in Prize Television, echoed his enthusiasm for Prize Television when he spoke from the company’s headquarters in Manila. “Our satellite company has long realized that a television network which would have an appeal to a mass audience in the Asia-Pacific region would be attractive to Mabuhay Satellite and so we were pleased to accept an invitation to participate in the Prize Television network.”
Prize Television will be launched on 19 June 2007 in Singapore with its content partner, a UK based interactive TV game show company, providing several TV game shows designed for the event. Shows will be televised on the Mabuhay Satellite booth (Hall 6/6C1-14) at the trade show with daily prizes provided by Western-Eye to visitors to the show who text message answers to quizzes originated in London and broadcast by satellite from Hawaii. The content partner is keeping its name under wraps until it makes a press announcement on the opening day of CommunicAsia, Singapore in June. A representative in London was however prepared to go on the record and said “ We are very impressed by the Prize Television business plan. They have a remarkable insight into the Asian market place and the combination of strategic partners and patent protected technology which they bring to the table made it compelling for us to be their content partner for the Asia Pacific region”
Prize Television will also unveil at CommunicAsia its WGA registered proprietary format TV competition called ‘I want to be on Satellite Television in Asia’ contest. Contestants post their video resume on the public internet video site youtube (www.youtube.com ) with the tag ‘prizetelevision’ and a selection of the best videos submitted on youtube will be broadcast on Agila2 satellite in September 2007. Competitors who visit www.prizetelevision.com/competition can enter free of charge.
Vince Waterson, President of Prize Television and VP of business development at Hawaii Pacific Teleport (www.hawaiiteleport.com ) which will broadcast the channel, is the inventor of patent pending technology which will increase profitability of the new network above that achievable by current television channels. Talking from his Ventura, California office he said “ Prize Television is the new kid on the block in television networking in the Asia Pacific region. Precocious? If you mean by that - ahead of our years - then I agree. We have a unique combination of television programming, distribution and technology which legacy television channels in the Asia Pacific region simply do not have”.
Cable Television Operators in Asia who also wish to view the free to air satellite broadcast during CommunicAsia should visit www.prizetelevision.com for reception details.
Prize Television is a brand name owned by the channel operator Western-Eye Ltd, Hong Kong.
