Prick Isn't a Dirty Word...

LAGUNA BEACH, CA -- February 5, 2008 -- Prick isn’t a dirty word.  Laguna Beach Publishing’s newly-released “The Prick Index™” (www.theprickindex.com ) is a book about Insights into Thorny Relationships.  These relationships are both male and female in gender.  The term “prick” is a metaphor for a rose thorn and the act of causing someone pain. The book has a new method of quantifying the level of pricking in a light, playful tone while capturing the seriousness of the subject.

The authors describe the book as fun and entertaining and allow the reader to see and rate themselves or people they know.  The goal of the book is to help people understand how we treat each other and what our options are to reduce the pain (remove the thorns) in our life.

The authors conducted focus groups nationwide that read and confirmed the terminology and measurement presented in the book.  After the participants read the book they incorporated the prick terminology to better describe themselves and people they know.  Prick took on a new personification.  Jill Jones, Creative Officer of Jill Jones Creative (and Former Executive VP of Creative Marketing, Universal Studios Consumer Products) said about the book, “Find a new meaning in the word ‘prick.’  Finally, a book that makes you laugh out loud about the irritating people in your life.  The perfect gift to share with friends!”

The authors were college roommates 25 years ago and reconnected one day when they were talking on the phone. They realized they were, much like everyone else, pursuing the “American Dream” until one day their worlds shattered.  They then realized that the “this is not my life” syndrome was common, but nobody talked about it in the open.  Certainly no one has written about it or has quantified how people interact with each other in such a raw truthful manner.  They either have lived many of the stories in the book, or know those that have or were inspired by stories they heard through word of mouth.  Today, Janis Skye is a Marketing Manager for a privately held firm just outside of Atlanta, Georgia and writes by candlelight.  Charlie Mercier currently writes and paints in Laguna Beach, California.
