According to a new report from Databeans, an internationally recognized market research firm focused on the semiconductor and electronics industry, market forecasts project "that the entire communications analog market will reach $14.8 billion in global sales in 2010, growing at an average rate of 9 percent annually." In the communications market, analog content is vital to the operations of a wide range of products. The majority of transceiver and PA consumption are made up of special purpose wireless products. Such devices are used in various communications devices, including handsets, base stations, PDAs, 2-way radio, short-range wireless applications, and cordless phones. According to the report, "In 2010, the entire special purpose analog communication segment is projected to reach $11.5 billion in sales. Over the next five years total sales will experience average growth of 6 percent, while shipments will experience average growth of 9 percent annually." The largest application market for special purpose is represented by the wireless communications market, which brings in $10.4 billion in total revenue. Over two-thirds of total special purpose communications analog revenue is attributed to the handsets segment alone. Currently, 3G-based functions are driving sales in mature markets. In the future, 4G technologies, such as WiMAX and LTE, will provide support for growth in these markets. As for emerging regions, low- to medium-end phone sales for new subscribers represent the main driver of communications analog sales.
