Now, the company is introducing a way to make it easier for potential web designers to become inspired, and actually see how Wix has proven to work for others in the past. This web-design "idea bank" is called "The Wix of the Day Archive". Images of the most outstanding websites created using Wix are displayed, along with brief descriptions of the web design included in each website.
This collection of websites originated with the Wix of the Day project enacted back in January of this year. Each day, a Flash website created with Wix is featured on the lower half of Wix.com's homepage. Beneath each website's screen shot is a link where one can learn what tools and design elements were used within Wix's website builder , to create that site.
Until now, this information would disappear with each new Wix of the Day. The Archive enables anyone interested in Wix to have a broad, survey-like perspective on what is possible with this revolutionary web design software.
The Wix of the Day Archive can currently be accessed through a link on Wix's "How To" page, but may move to a new, more visible location on Wix's website in the future. The collection is arranged in a blog-like format, with each Wix of the Day site posted according to the date on which it originally appeared on the Wix homepage. The site descriptions are included as well.
To gain Wix of the Day status, a Wix user must send the URL of his/her website to wixofday@wix.com. Users with a free website, that includes the Wix domain name, are welcomed to submit their designs as are Premium users with unique domains. The Wix Design Studio evaluates the submitted websites based on a combination of aesthetic and functional qualities. Sites with visually arresting web design stand out among the Archive's websites, but some sites are chosen for their creative inclusion of Wix's web design tools.
"We're often stunned by how impressive the web designs are that we receive from users. The website builder allows creativity to be pushed to its limit, and the work we've seen beautifully illustrates this," says the head of Wix's Design Studio, Hagit Kauffman.
Wix is backed by Mangrove Capital Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners and Benchmark Capital. Wix headquarters are located in New York, and additional offices are in Tel Aviv. The company was created in 2005.
