Fringe: A Cartoon History of the George Dubya Bush Administration by Elena Steier uses a variety of styles to illustrate the regime she considers a fringe group
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- November 12, 2008 -- In Fringe: A Cartoon History of the George Dubya Bush Administration, political cartoonist and conservative Elena Steier aims to skewer an administration whose policies she believes have caused untold damage to the American people and economy over the last eight years.
Political conservative Steier attempts to target what she feels are the failed policies of the Bush years in her collection of political cartoons, Fringe. Using fake posters and comic book covers, a daily kids’ comic strip, one-panel political cartoons and tiny “quickies,” Steier satirizes Enron, bigger government, wiretapping, war, the Christian Right and tax cuts. Bush, she asserts, was never the conservative she had hoped he might be, but instead, she suggests that he represented a fringe group with an unclear agenda.

Fringe collects eight years of her cartoons, and Steier feels they are especially timely given the current economic crisis. No matter what readers’ political affiliations, Steier hopes that viewers will find her cartoons thought-provoking and hilarious.
