Actor Alec Baldwin’s new book, A Promise to Ourselves, details his contentious custody battle with Kim Basinger over their daughter Ireland. Dr. D. Lorandos, a nationally recognized expert on Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS), has stated that Baldwin’s accusations against Basinger illustrate a classic case of the syndrome.
Dr. Lorandos, a Ph.D. psychologist and practicing attorney for Parental Alienation cases, is the contributing editor of the International Handbook of Parental Alienation Syndrome. He has appeared many times on national television and radio as a commentator on law, science, and PAS. Dr. Lorandos’ campaign to get the word out on PAS has taken him all over the country, fighting in court to educate judges and attorneys on the syndrome.

As an attorney, Dr. Lorandos has seen firsthand the nightmare that can be created when one parent pits their child against the other parent. Unfortunately, too many judges are unfamiliar with psychological extortion, and they tear the child away from one of the parents in the child’s "best interest." This can scar a child for life, causing them to experience depression and become unable to form healthy relationships in adulthood.
“Unfortunately, there are thousands of children like Ireland,” says Dr. Lorandos. “Parents’ anger toward one another is tearing these children apart, and judges don’t understand how to recognize when one parent is poisoning the child against the other.”
Lorandos is optimistic and enthusiastic about the effect Baldwin’s book will have on raising awareness of Parental Alienation Syndrome. He has frequently been asked to appear in television and radio to explain Parental Alienation and explain how to recognize the signs and symptoms.
