Developing Body, Mind and Spirit by Peter L. Tsirigotis brings awareness to the nonviolent benefits of martial arts

WESTFIELD, N.J. (MMD Newswire) July 12, 2010 -- Developing Body, Mind and Spirit: A Parents Guide to Martial Arts Training for Kids by Peter L. Tsirigotis strives to offer a straightforward analysis of martial arts disciplines, based on the author's 30 years of training experience, which includes participation on the 2002 Coup de Monde for Savate, a form of kickboxing, for the United States Kickboxing Team. "Martial arts training has been an integral part of my successes in life personally, educationally and professionally," says Tsirigotis. "One of the greatest gifts my parents gave to me was the opportunity to pursue my interests in the martial arts."

Tsirigotis' hope is that other parents will follow suit, but consider all the myths and truths discussed in Developing Body, Mind and Spirit before enrolling their children in martial arts classes. Instead of seeing martial arts as a physical method to defeat a bully, he says parents and students should be aware of the disciplined concentration, determination and focus required in karate, tae kwon do and kickboxing.

Tsirigotis began studying and training in the martial arts at age 11 and continued through college and law school. He believes Developing Body, Mind and Spirit will help decipher the mental and physical health benefits, as well as the drawbacks, which he feels are not often addressed in some schools. "While martial arts training may present the possibility for concrete benefits to a wide range of issues that manifest themselves in the raising of both boys and girls, it is not the panacea often espoused by many martial arts schools," he says.
