OUT OF THE SHADOWS AND INTO THE LIGHT -- WORLDWIDE ACCLAIM FOR AUSTRALIA'S HOTTEST YOUNG CLASSICAL ARTIST
May 14, 2007 -- The release of ‘Stir the Sky’, her second CD, confirms Milica Ilic [pronounced Mel-itza Ill-itch] as one of the most intriguing artists currently composing and performing music for classical guitar. A forthcoming summer tour of venues in Australia and the UK will enable her audiences to enjoy her music and personality first-hand.
At the age of 20 Milica played at the invitation of José Carreras at his birthday celebration concert at Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia. Subsequently they have toured together in Australia and South East Asia.
"It was a great pleasure to work on two occasions together with this talented young artist. I wish Milica all the best for her career!" José Carreras, April 2007
This recognition projected Milica into the light of public awareness and critical acclaim.
Now based in London, Milica was born in Bosnia where she began to play the guitar at age seven. A few years later her family left their war-torn country for a new life in Australia. After a period of readjustment Milica resumed her musical studies. In 2003 she graduated with First Class Honours from the Music Faculty at University of Western Australia, Perth. In 2004 she was honoured as West Australia's ‘Citizen of the Year’ for her contribution to art and culture.
‘Stir the Sky’, Milica's new CD, is in essence an autobiographical statement. Like her debut release, Rouge Guitar, it marks a stage in an ongoing journey that has led her from Bosnia, where she spent her childhood, to Australia, where she grew up and studied guitar, to London, the current home for her music.
‘Stir the Sky’, mostly featuring Milica's own compositions, is pervaded with a sense of places visited and people met, a sense of movement and music-making. There's also love, laughter, fond memories and bittersweet recollection. Each track is like a journal extract, a highly personal record being offered for sharing.
The tour commencing in June will cover major cities and festivals in Australia and the UK and Milica will be available for interviews during this period. Full MP3s are available for media reviews and radio stations upon request:
