OCTOPZ: ONE OF BRANHAM'S 'TOP 25 UP AND COMERS' FOR 2008

2008 Branham300 spotlights young companies providing innovative products and services, and unique solutions

(TORONTO, March 18, 2008) – Octopz is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the Branham Group and Backbone magazine as one of the Branham300 Top 25 Up and Comers as part of their annual roundup of Canada’s top-performing tech companies.   The Top 25 Up and Comers are all companies established within the past three years, and which show tremendous promise within Canada’s information and communication technology industry.

In creating this year’s list, a number of significant trends were noted and are expected to have an ongoing impact, including resource virtualization to allow cost savings through simulation, and on-demand Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) — hosted software solutions that help reduce software maintenance costs while ensuring the most up-to-date products.  In addition, the Internet has seen noteworthy developments related to collaboration, which is becoming increasingly important for both business and social interaction.

Offered on a SaaS basis, Octopz enables up to five people to synchronously view and markup an unprecedented range of documents including digital media such as video and animations, and to communicate via built-in text, voice and video chat. Their work — including markup and notes — is stored securely, so that participants can review and revise projects individually whenever it’s convenient, 24/7.

Octopz also uses intuitive navigation and tool icons, requires nothing more than a flash-enabled web browser, and uses integrated SSL encryption to ensure security. In addition, Octopz can be integrated (via Flash, API and web services) with existing applications.

“We are delighted with this recognition from the Branham Group and Backbone magazine,” said Ron McKenzie, CEO of Octopz.  “Since its inception, the Branham300 has represented a truly insightful view on the Canadian information technology market.  To be named to this year’s list of up-and-coming companies is a tremendous vote of confidence in the power and innovation of the Octopz collaboration platform.”

Octopz launched at Web 2.0 Expo 2007, where CNET named it one of the ‘Top Five’ Web 2.0 services; in 2008, for the second year in a row, it is a finalist in the CNET “Webware 100” awards. Octopz was also identified as a 2007 rising star by InfoWorld, selected by Red Herring as one of the ten hottest startups in Canada and named one of Canada’s Companies-to-Watch as part of the 2007 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards.

Branham Group's ranking of the top 300 Canadian Information Technology (IT) companies reflects the ever-changing, yet ever-present IT Sector.  The Branham300 — the most comprehensive listing of publicly traded and privately held IT companies in Canada — is published annually. The latest edition is available online at www.branham300.com and in the March/April issue of Backbone magazine.
