OCTOPZ A "WEBWARE 100" FINALIST FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
February 25, 2008
(TORONTO, February 25, 2008) – Octopz is pleased to announce that, for the second year in a row, it has been selected by the editors at CNET Webware as a finalist in the “Webware 100” awards.  Nominated in the Productivity category, Octopz was chosen as one of 300 finalists by the editors of CNET Webware.com from more than 4,600 qualifying Web 2.0 services and applications submitted by readers and company representatives.

The 100 winners will be decided by an online vote, and the winning companies will be announced on Monday, April 21, the day before the 2008 Web 2.0 Expo opens.  Voting opens at noon on Monday, February 25.  To vote for Octopz, users simply go to http://www.webware.com/html/ww/100/2008/vote_prod.html?compid=103411 where a Webware 100 ballot will be automatically populated with a vote for Octopz.

The “Webware 100” Awards recognize the best Web 2.0 sites, services, and applications that are leading the next wave of innovation.  More information about the award program can be found at www.webware.com/100

Octopz launched at the first Web 2.0 Expo in 2007, and was named one of the ‘Top Five’ Web 2.0 services at the show by the editors of Webware.com. Since then, Octopz has been identified as a 2007 rising star by InfoWorld, selected by Red Herring as one of the ten hottest startups in Canada, named one of Canada’s Companies-to-Watch as part of the 2007 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards and been a finalist in the Webware 100 awards two years in a row.

Offered on a Software as a Service (SaaS) basis, Octopz was developed specifically to meet the needs of creative professionals and enables up to five people to synchronously view and markup an unprecedented range of documents including digital media such as video and animations, and to communicate via built-in text, voice and video chat.  Their work — including all marked up documents and notes — is stored securely, so that users can access, review and revise projects whenever it’s convenient, 24/7.

Octopz also uses intuitive navigation and tool icons, requires nothing more than a flash-enabled web browser, and uses integrated SSL encryption to ensure security.  In addition, Octopz can be integrated (via Flash, API and web services) with existing applications.

“We are delighted with this continued recognition from the editors and readers of Webware.com,” said Ron McKenzie, CEO of Octopz.  “In the rapidly-evolving world of Software as a Service, to be acknowledged as an industry leader two years in a row is a fantastic accomplishment.  It’s a real tribute to everyone who has worked so hard to make Octopz an exceptional collaboration tool.”
