Won’t Bamboozle Buyers: NURSERY BOSS BROADCASTS BIG BAMBOO BLOWOUT
VERO BEACH, FL – In an attempt to sell off almost 2,000 bamboo plants planted on 80 acres of land it wants to use for other purposes, one of Florida’s largest wholesale nurseries has announced the state’s first “bamboo blowout” event.
Mike Bertin of Horizon Horticultural Group in Vero Beach said his company decided to replant the site that now contains a “bamboo farm” with a variety of other trees, including palms.
“That means we have to quickly move a lot of healthy bamboo plants and we are prepared to make deals at ‘bargain basement’ prices in order to do so,” Bertin noted. He added that while dozens of bamboo varieties are grown around the world, his field is planted with three of the most popular “clumping” types: Golden Hawaiian, Dwarf Buddha Belly and Green Stripe Hedge. However, several additional varieties will be ready for sale next spring.
“Most people don’t realize that bamboo is a member of the grass family, though you wouldn’t think so to look at a towering fifty-foot-high plant,” Bertin explained. “And while we usually think of bamboo in terms of furniture, exotic dishware or tropical landscapes, it has other practical applications. For example, bamboo plants are used on busy highways as sound barriers and they also make excellent wind screens.”
He added: “In the past, we’ve sold bamboo to landscapers and landscape architects, builders and developers, municipalities, zoos, theme parks and a host of other customers who recognized the strength, beauty and versatility of the plant.”
Bertin said his company is very anxious to sell its bamboo crop and is willing to consider any reasonable offer.
“We’ll take care of digging them up, balling them and shipping them anywhere in the United States,” he asserted. “However, we’re not interested in selling them individually; rather, we want to ship them in lots of 20 or 30 at a time. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for customers to purchase beautiful and healthy bamboo plants at rock bottom prices.”
He added that Horizon will guarantee the bamboos for a full year if they are replanted with proper care.
