Chicago -- The Top 50 North American Fairs drew a whopping 41,468,926 guests in 2007.  Led by the State Fair of Texas with an estimated 2,052,000 visitors, the cumulative attendance figure for the events was essentially the same as the 41,475,968 who visited the Top 50 fairs in 2006.

Carnivalwarehouse.com , the industry website that compiles the annual listing, said the top four fairs for 2007, the Texas State Fair, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (1,806,129), the Minnesota State Fair (1,681,678) and the Los Angeles County Fair  (1,365,026) ranked the  same as in 2006.   

New to the Top 50 fairs list this year were four events: The State Fair Of Louisiana (405,748), the Maryland State Fair (417,458), The Ionia (MI) Free Fair (406,890) and the Dixie Classic Fair (NC) (371,219).

“Extreme heat hurt many fairs in the mid-west this summer”, said Matt Cook, President of carnivalwarehouse.com.  “In compiling the list this year, we  saw several of the fairs that usually rank high experience  significant  drops in attendance due to the heat.”    Some of the biggest drops came from  the Indiana State Fair (down 14%), the Iowa State Fair (down 9%) and the Canadian National Exhibition (down 10%).   

Other fairs however, saw large increases from 2006.  They include the Orange County Fair (CA), up 18%, the Capital Ex (ALB), up 12%, the York Fair (PA), up 13%, the South Carolina State Fair, up 11% and the largest of the Top50 increases, the Allentown Fair up an enormous 36%.
