NEW YORK LAW FIRM SCHNEIDER, PFAHL & RAHME, LLP, JOINS WITH ART FOR HEALING NYC TO HOST BENEFIT FOR AILING 9/11 VOLUNTEER
Proceeds to benefit the George Tabb Medical Fund, named for Artist and Local Post 9/11 Survivor/Volunteer Worker Suffering from Numerous Exposure-Related Illnesses
September 28, 2006, New York, NY -- A benefit will be held on Monday, October 9th for George Tabb, a post 9/11 volunteer who has suffered from exposure to post 9/11 toxins. Featured on CNBC, in People Magazine and other media , Tabb has fought for recognition and aid for 9/11 victims, including first responders and residents of surrounding downtown neighborhoods who have been struck by 9/11 related health issues.
New York law firm Schneider, Pfahl & Rahme, LLP will sponsor the event along with the non-profit organization Art for Healing NYC (www.artforhealingnyc.org ). Included along with more the more than 110 co-sponsors are Congressman Jerrold Nadler, artist Harry Pincus and author Bart Davis.
This event is part of the quarterly "networking for a cause" event called "First Mondays" (www.firstmondays.com ) begun by Schneider, Pfahl in October 2002. "It was and is a way to bring New Yorkers together and lift their spirits," according to Dan Schneider, an attorney with the firm and a longtime friend of Mr. Tabb.
When Schneider learned of Tabb's medical issues and his struggle to secure compensation and humane medical care for those with 9/11-related health problems, he arranged to dedicate the upcoming “First Monday” to George to help him to continue to advocate for 9/11 victims. Says Schneider, “ We wanted to find a way for George to pay his growing medical bills and basic living expenses so he can very shortly form a non-profit to continue 9/11 victims' advocacy and help all the others and continue the job he's done in that area for the past 5 years.” George Tabb's struggle is detailed on his website www.myspace.com/helpgeorgetabb .
Schneider's firm has organized a Benefit Committee of more than 110 Manhattan friends and clients. Schneider points out "our law firm does transactional work, and represents artists and small businesses in Manhattan, many of whom have been adversely impacted by 9/11. Several of the individual members of the Benefit Committee are NYC litigators and have volunteered to help George look into possible civil liability of state, federal and City governments and former government officials. Our goal is not punitive, it is merely to help George and others like him, get the medical care and just compensation they deserve."
Present at the benefit will be Lt. Bill Keegan, Jr., Port Authority Police leader at Ground Zero, a 9/11 survivor, who lost more than 37 of his officers on that day. He will be signing copies of his new book, Closure, co-written with Bart Davis. Community activist Lila Nordstrom (www.stuyhealth.blogspot.com ) will speak on the health issues of students from Stuyvesant High School and BMCC who were forced to return to school prematurely. Additionally, there will be a silent auction and live music by a number of artists including former Klezmatics co-founder Alicia Svigals, members of the Giulio Gari Opera Foundation, and others.
The benefit will take place at The Parlour, 250 West 86th Street (between Broadway and West End), 7 PM to 11 PM. A $10 donation is suggested. All proceeds will go to benefit the George Tabb medical fund. For further information, please contact Dan Schneider, Esq. at 845-616-6909 or by e-mail at
