Make Your Windows Safe for Songbirds--for Under $10
October 1, 2007 -- Traditional strategies for preventing window strikes include hanging moving objects outside the window to frighten birds away, dulling any reflections and making the glass more visible to birds. But most homeowners are averse to many of the strategies offered by experts because they create eyesores or block the home owner’s view. No one wants hanging balloons or strips of Mylar flying about outside their windows. And suggestions to dull reflections and make windows more visible to birds by soaping them up, smearing them with toothpaste, tacking up netting or applying tape or cloth to them are generally unacceptable to the homeowner. But there is a solution that most homeowners do find acceptable: reflective decals placed outside the window.
Duncraft’s new Save-the-Birds UV warning window decals are placed on the outside of windows and glass doors—at a spacing of one decal per three square feet of glass area. These UV tinted decals, though transparent to the human eye, reflect a solid blue image to birds—making the window glass “visible.” When viewed from inside the home, the decals are virtually invisible to the human eye. Duncraft’s new Save-the-Birds UV Decals are available in Snowflake, Star and Leaf shapes at a price of $9.95 for a set of six of one type. They are offered online at www.duncraft.com
Save-the-Birds UV Decals make use of the fact that birds’ sight is so much more acute than human sight. All birds can perceive in the ultraviolet spectrum, which is invisible to us. So while a Save-the-Birds Decal is see-thru for us, for the birds it is seen as solid blue-violet shape – a virtual Stop Sign – that saves birds’ lives.

Press Release Summary
Millions of birds are killed yearly by flying into glass windows, doors and buildings. When window glass reflects images of nearby trees, clouds and sky, those reflections -trick- birds into perceiving a safe, flyable space. Duncraft, the authoritative purveyor of wild bird feeding products since 1952, offers an effective and inexpensive solution to help prevent window strikes around the home and office.
