New Novel Presents Readers with an Unsettling Image of how our Culture may have Developed
March 06, 2008
London, March 6 2008 -- The Nursery, the debut novel by Warren Hargodd, presents readers with an unsettling mirror image of how our culture might have developed.

In a tale that fuses elements of the fantasy, horror, science fiction and mystery thriller genres, readers are drawn into the nation of Copunica, a hypothetical (or simply overlooked?) island state which has developed in isolation for centuries and now finds itself in an apocalyptic collision with the West. How might any civilization build its own identity when it is placed in such extreme geographical isolation? What might it gain and lose when an increasingly globalised world attempts to swallow it up? How might a people’s devout belief in their own theology cope with the intrusion of a leery outside world? And, just suppose, the god they worship is not quite what it seems..?

The idea for The Nursery first came about while the author was himself living abroad and the whole, complex plot gradually wove together from a number of ideas for short stories. Setting much of the action in a fictitious country was a great imaginative and technical challenge, but one which ultimately paid off and Copunica seems altogether eerily believable. Inspirations for this work include Neil Gaiman, Iain Banks and Philip K Dick with perhaps a hint of Lovecraft, and it will surely appeal to anybody who has enjoyed the works of these authors.

The Nursery is available to purchase both in paperback format (525 pages, retailing at £15.95 / US $31.70) or as a PDF to download (£3.95 / US $7.84).
