Crystal Imagery is a new art technique I created using crushed stained glass to construct an image. When the light reflects from it, there is a sparkling affect because of the irregular shapes of glass. Although somewhat limited with the colors of stained glass I have found that by placing each tiny shard or sliver on individually I am able to blend and give the perception of various colors. Also, because the slivers or shards are placed one-by-one using tweezers and a magnifying glass, it produces a paint brush appearance and allows for detailed control.
The entire process is labor intensive (small pictures taking 1-2 weeks) and requires a pure love for the art as the material must be prepared (bags sewn, glass crushed, image drawn), before the long process of placing each shard begins. Although there is a high risk of being cut when the initial stained glass is broken, the final slivers have never posed a threat as I'm able to run my hands over the image or through a bowl of glass shards without injury.
Most of my art honors the symbolic and spiritual meaning of animals as I have an admiration of the animal kingdom and the challenges they face. Their courage has influenced my own life to believe in my art and myself, and take the risks to follow my dreams. Leaving the security of a well paying career, my family and friends, I moved to a small town so I could dedicate my time to creating my art.
