October 17, 2012 (MMD Newswire) -- When Neil Nyren, senior vice president, publisher and editor in chief of G.P. Putnam's Sons, learned from best-selling suspense author, John Lescroart, that a new writers' conference was coming to Maui, he was intrigued. The fact that all proceeds of the conference would go to benefit the free programs of a Native Hawaiian non-profit agency made it that much more compelling. Finally, seeing the conference website, and the line-up of award-winning authors, top agents and editors, Nyren, who has among his authors such greats as Clive Cussler, Ken Follett, and John Sandford, was ready to pack his suitcase.

Kaui Hemmings, whose novel, The Descendants, was made into the highly acclaimed film starring George Clooney, Jacquelyn Mitchard, author of The Deep End of the Ocean, chosen as the first book of the Oprah Winfrey Book Club, Thomas Cook, winner of the Edgar Allen Poe Award and Diane Lake, whose screenplay Frieda walked away with two Academy Awards, are just a few among the many outstanding faculty. They will be joined by agents and editors such as Elizabeth Evans of Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency, Melissa Flashman of Trident Literacy Group of New York, and of course, Neil Nyren of G.P. Putnam's Sons. This gathering of some of the best in the industry will happen from January 18-21, on one of the most beautiful places on earth, the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, Maui, during one of the tropical islands most exciting times, whale season.

Following the conference, writers are invited to register for the Writers' Retreat. Attendance at the conference is not a prerequisite for joining. Attendees will spend five intense, inspiring days, at Pioneer Inn in Lahaina, (January 22-27), working under the direction of a New York Times best-selling author or acclaimed screenplay writer in a group of no more than ten. The workshops will emphasize how to shape a saleable manuscript or screenplay. However, it is the sense of aloha that will distinguish this writers conference and retreat from others.

The faculty of the Aloha Writers Conference was specifically selected for their dedication to helping other writers, their outgoing personalities, and their ability to teach what they know. The Hawaiian cultural specialists are all outstanding teachers who will be sharing their mana'o (thoughts, and knowledge). They will be joined by ten Native Hawaiian authors who will showcase their work Saturday evening during "Native Voices."

Readers and writers will enjoy the many opportunities available to learn, network, and enjoy the splendor of the islands, in an authentic Hawaiian environment. Attendees will come away motivated, inspired, and with an awareness of Hawaiian culture that may inform future writing. All genres are represented; fiction, non-fiction, screenplays and poetry. Now is the time to take advantage of the Early Registration discount. Save $100.00 off the cost of registration.
