Friday Harbor, WA (MMD Newswire) October 12, 2009 -- While it powerfully solves many important problems, industrial society's dependence on technology also presents us with the earth-shaking problem of going out of balance and producing a wide range of disturbances in places and people. To remedy this momentous disorder, researchers at Akamai University and Project NatureConnect have introduced a new technology, a scientific blueprint they call Natural Attraction Ecology. It's application enables any discipline to technologically re-establish and sustain the holistic personal, social and environmental equilibrium we have lost due to our runaway use of technology.
To help people learn to apply the blueprint effectively, Project NatureConnect offers subsidized online training courses and UNESCO approved degree programs. These provide a holistic Internet technique that helps to sustain present and future generations.
The Director of Project NatureConnect, Dr. Michael J. Cohen, author of "Educating, Counseling and Healing With Nature," notes that the science of Natural Attraction Ecology makes a critical contribution because it is not just an idea. It is also technology, an applicable working model, a tool to help us curb our excessiveness. He says, "It empowers us to reduce our imbalances. It enables us stop denying the fact that most of our thinking and technologies deteriorate the balancing process of nature and its restorative flow in and around us."
A field report from one of Dr. Cohen's students states, " Doing this Natural Attraction Ecology activity while sitting under a tree, I heard the environment's callings. I felt attracted to look over my head. The trunk of the tree against which I was leaning towered above me with its leafless branches stretching toward the sky. It was like each of those branches was an arm with hands and fingers trying to grab the sun, the air, the rain....life. Without a thought, my arms stretched above my head and my hands and fingers were reaching for the sky soaking up the sun and air. Then the message was loud and clear: ' I sense, I feel the grace of nature's balancing ways; therefore, I am.' Strong feelings of affirmation flooded through me. They alerted me to the fact that just as branches reach high to take in the environment, roots growing downward are grounded and that this branch-root relationship maintains equilibrium. I felt loving and devoted to these fulfilling satisfactions I sensed. I became aware that did not need more than I already had."
The pioneering mission of Project NatureConnect is to increase personal, social and environmental well-being by helping individuals genuinely connect their thinking and feeling with the sensitive intelligence of nature's self-correcting ways, in and around them. The online program's low-cost, UNESCO approved, training courses and degrees enable students to make conscious sensory contact with the wisdom found in natural areas, backyard or back country.
