STAY-AT-HOME MOM PRODUCES A NEW MEDITATION CD TO CALM HER ACTIVE CHILDREN …AND YOURS.

10% of CD profits to benefit Vibha, a non-profit organization that provides education and healthcare to underprivileged children in India.

Houston, TX -- July 2, 2008 -- “Mantras for my children…and yours: Sanskrit chants to calm active children,” is a mantra meditation cd produced by stay-at-home mother, Nina Patel, to help calm and relax active children by means of chanting mantras. Her interest in producing the mantra cd came about by chance.  “I noticed my children became more relaxed as they heard me chant mantras and affirmations in the morning, a ritual that I practice for personal growth,” says Nina who goes by the artist name Mantra Mom.  “So, I started chanting mantras with my children on our way to school to center them for the day and before bedtime to ease them to sleep.  I also chanted mantras to soothe them during times of anxiousness.   What I eventually found was that chanting became a great emotional release for my children when they had difficulty articulating their feelings,” she adds.

Released on May 8th, the CD takes on a 21st century twist to traditional 5,500 old mantras.  Unlike any other mantra cd on the market, the mantras are performed like a rap to a backdrop of hip-hop music, making chanting fun and easy for children of today’s generation.  The tracks are also purposefully arranged to slowly ease the child to a calm meditative state by gradually moving from hip-hop to moody new age music.

The CD consists of 10 Sanskrit mantras with a bonus track that includes the positive affirmations-“I can do it”, “I trust myself”-to help increase a child’s inner confidence.  It also a practical solution for busy parents since it can be played in the car during the morning commute and at bedtime, helping a child be more at peace with themselves.

How does chanting work?

Repeating a mantra or chanting can help relax an anxious child by first regulating his breath.  When one chants, the breath becomes deep, even and regular.  This allows higher levels of oxygen to flood the body and as a result, the body begins to relax.  Eventually, the child’s emotional level becomes calm and more centered, and the physical body follows. “Chanting mantras can be very calming and reassuring for children in this fast-paced, ever-changing world we live in today,” says Anandita Oberoi, Licensed Professional Counselor in Houston, Texas.   "I have used mantras on my child clients and found that chanting simple mantras can help build a child’s self-confidence, lower their anxiety and ease them during difficult times such as a loss of a loved one,” she adds.

What is a mantra?

In simple terms, a mantra is similar to an affirmation on steroids.  We are all aware of the impact that affirmations have on the subconscious mind.  A word or phrase repeating in one’s mind has the power to influence thoughts, emotions and attitudes, positively or negatively.   When a word or phrase is approximately 5,500 years old, the energy accumulated by millions of people who have chanted that mantra over millennia is benefited by the chanter today!  The original definition of a mantra was a hymn or phrase recited continually as a prayer for spiritual growth.   The common usage has come to be a word or syllable(s) used repetitively as a means to increase our focus and concentration.

10% of CD sales go towards Vibha, a non-profit organization that helps builds schools and provide healthcare for underprivileged children in India.  The cd is available on Mantramom.com, Cdbaby.com, Amazon.com (August) and Target.com (in August).

Mantra Mom has been practicing mantra meditation her entire life and now with her sons, Jaidan, 5 and Kalel, 3.  She is a Reiki Healer and practices Yoga, Tai Chi and Dahn Mu Do.
