February 14, 2008

Cincinnati, OH -- February 2008 -- Under the guidance of Kaleidoscope, a design firm in Cincinnati,  sixth grade students on Team Ingenuity from Mason Intermediate School were able to integrate real world experience into their science unit by assisting Mead in creating and redesigning Five Star school supplies to meet today’s educational needs in the classroom.

The students were immersed into the world of product design following the same processes that Kaleidoscope designers use to create new products and also modify existing products.  Each student completed a product usage diary, interviewed friends, participated in a competitive product audit, stimulated new ideas, and brainstormed on conceptual sketches to develop design concepts to be presented to Mead.  During the three sessions into the product design world, students heard about how different career fields are integrated together to design and produce new products that impact our society.  The students ideas were embraced by Mead and the students will anxiously await future Back-to-School releases to see how their insight and input will be incorporated into the Five Star products.

Kaleidoscope is a design strategy and product development firm with offices in Cincinnati, New York and Detroit.
