TORONTO (MMD Newswire) February 18, 2011 -- The Government of Canada today announced the winning manufacturers of the 2011 ecoENERGY for Vehicles Awards at the Canadian International AutoShow. The awards, given to manufacturers for their efforts in improving fuel efficiency, recognized the most fuel-efficient cars and light trucks available in Canada this year.
"By improving the fuel efficiency of their vehicles, these manufacturers are helping Canadians reduce greenhouse gas emissions," said the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources. "These award-winning manufacturers are leading Canada into the green evolution of vehicle technologies."
The winners of the 2011 Awards in each of the 10 vehicle classes are:
* Two-seater car: Honda CR-Z
* Subcompact car: Ford Fiesta SFE
* Compact car: Honda Civic Hybrid
* Mid-size car: Toyota Prius
* Full-size car: Honda Accord Sedan and Hyundai Sonata (co-winners)
* Station wagon: Audi A3 TDI Clean Diesel and Volkswagen Golf Wagon TDI Clean Diesel (co-winners)
* Pickup truck: Toyota Tacoma
* Special purpose vehicle: Ford Escape Hybrid
* Minivan: Toyota Sienna
* Large van: Chevrolet Express Cargo and GMC Savana Cargo
The ecoENERGY for Vehicles Awards are a part of the Government of Canada's ecoENERGY initiatives -- a $4.1-billion set of focused measures to help Canadians use energy more efficiently, boost renewable energy supplies and develop cleaner energy technologies.
