The content of the essay is to explain why the writer would like to win this home in 200 words or less and submitted along with a one hundred dollar ($100) non-refundable entry fee (which will be held in an escrow account) payable by certified check or money order. The winner of the essay contest will be notified on Christmas Morning.

The property which features a gourmet kitchen, custom oak cabinets, polished brass 24% Lead Crystal light fixtures and an exquisite James R. Moder Crystal Chandelier with a Royal Gold finish is appraised at $346,000. Gregory, Maria, and their two children are temporary living with Gregory’s Sister Kim, and her family until they are able to afford an apartment of their own.

There are 9 of us total in one house, and on some weekends, 11 of us, when Kim’s daughter and her boyfriend come home from college. There are blow up mattresses all over the house.” said Gregory Bullock, 41.

The Bullock’s listed their home for sale the traditional way, with a Real Estate Broker and For Sale By Owner, but when a family member suggested to give their home away through an essay contest, they fell in love with the idea. They re-searched other essay contests, spoke to an attorney, re-searched the Attorney General and Government websites, then decided to finalize the details.

“We have always been the type of family to volunteer our time, money, and resources with several non-profit organizations and outreach ministries within our community that help with giving food, clothing, blankets, mattresses and shelter to the homeless. Through out the past 9 years, we have opened up our home to many hurting teenagers, and visiting ministers passing through, as well as, taking families in to live with us for an extended period of time due to an abuse or divorce situation.” said Maria Bullock, 35.

“There are so many low income families all over the world that will never be able purchase a home of their own. We view this essay contest as an even greater opportunity for us to make a difference in some one’s life by giving away our home to a family in need and allowing the Love of Christ to touch their hearts through us.” Maria said .  The proceeds from the contest entry fee will pay off the mortgage on the home in Louisiana, cover the expenses of the Essay Contest, and provide a first month rent, last months rent, and a deposit on an apartment in Colorado. They will need minimum of 3,500 entries. The winning essay will be chosen by several independent judges, whose names will be released after the winner is notified.
