AlgaeLink NV, a European leader in alternative energy production, announced today they will be giving professional Algae production courses at their production facility in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands, August 16, 2007 -- AlgaeLink is a developer of scalable AlgaeLink® photo-bioreactors for the production of biodiesel, which have been developed with patented technology. They also produce other valuable bio-commodities produced from algae oil. This technology has the potential to dramatically improve biodiesel yields from algae oil. AlgaeLink is engaging in research and development of algae cultivation as an energy source for the production of biodiesel, which is an economically feasible and eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based fuels.

“With the increasing interest in biodiesel as an alternative to petrodiesel, many have looked at the possibility of growing even more oilseed crops as a solution to the problem of peak oil,” says Hans van de Ven, President  and CEO. “However, there are two problems with this approach. Firstly, cultivation of even more oilseed crops will usurp valuable space needed to grow food crops to feed mankind. And secondly, traditional oilseed crops are not the most productive or efficient source of vegetable oil. Micro-algae have the highest potential of energy yield in vegetable oil crops. Some species of algae are ideally suited for biodiesel production due to their high oil content, some as much as 50% to 70%. They also have an extremely fast growth rate. They can grow in adverse conditions like deserts or saline water. That is why algae are the crop of the future. With our fast growing algae species and our advanced AlgaeLink® photo-bioreactor it only takes a few days to be in full production and to collect the first algae. And the cost of biodiesel feedstock will be as low as 10 to 15 cents a liter. After following our course, students will be able to make their own biodiesel out of algae. Our automated AlgaeLink® photo-bioreactors produce six times more algae than any other algae growing system. Complete systems may already be obtained starting from € 69,400.--.”

The professional two day course will include an introduction to algae and gives information of what species to select, how to grow algae and the reason for using (and information for the use of) a photo- bioreactor.  While visiting the photo- bioreactor test facility, students are able to see the harvesting, drying and the extracting of oil from the algae and they will make their own batch of biodiesel.
