Sometimes a good idea is all it takes to launch a style that makes you a reference. Since 1987, Klaus Guingand has created truly original pictorial works by immortalizing the (life-size) shadow of stars and international celebrities who have posed for him and have co-signed these unique works. Each shadow is painted on a 78 x 60 inch canvas. Some 200 stars and celebrities have posed for him thus far.
Klaus Guingand was the first contemporary artist to exhibit at the Louvre (Foss Charles V) in Paris, in 1995. Léo Castelli opened his home to Guingand and also visited the artist in his Paris studio, the great international art critic Pierre Restany, who actively supported him, were great friends. In 1996, Guingand organized an auction for some of this work to assist in the fight against AIDS. He is also the friend of some of the greatest stars of our time.
A PATH TO FAME.
2007 is the last year the artist will paint shadow portraits. If you would like to pose for Klaus Guingand so he can make your shadow immortal, you can make an appointment, as some have done already. Celebrity and immortality on canvas: you can become the subject of art. This artistic proposal is a real must, similar to that of Andy Warhol who offered to produce silk screen
portraits for a Happy few. Walk the path to fame for $ 20,000.
His next and final exhibition on “Shadow follows substance.” Will take place in New York, presenting the shadows paintings of 33 of the greatest contemporary artists. Fourteen have already participated: Pierre Alechinsky, Miquel Barcelõ, Sandro Chia, Wim Delvoye, Fabrice Hyber, Jasper Johns, Yayoi Kusama, Bertrand Lavier, Brice Marden, Jacques Monory, François Morellet, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Pierre Soulages and Bernar Venet.
