KayakPro's New kayak Ergometer Chosen by Beijing Olympic Games
June 17, 2008

New Rochelle, NY -- June 17, 2008 -- Today, KayakPro, maker of the Speedstroke Gym Kayak and Canoe Ergometers, was named the official supplier of kayak ergometers to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

KayakPro is no stranger to the Olympics. It was the exclusive kayak ergometer supplier to both the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece as well as the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.

KayakPro president Grayson Bourne said, “It is great news for us that we have been chosen again to be the key training tool for Olympic paddlers. It once again reinforces our position as the World’s premier ergometer manufacturer. We know that in 2007, five of the six World Champions, as well as Adam Van Koeverden, the reigning Olympic Champion in K1 500 meters used our kayak ergometers to train. The results speak for themselves.”

Kayak Pro’s Speedstroke Gym, which is being release in June 2008, will be supplied to athletes training at the Olympic Village and at the Olympic competition site in Beijing, China beginning in late June.

Speedstroke Gym is KayakPro’s professional grade, heavy-use, steel construction paddlesports ergometer, designed for high output elite athletes, as well as hard use in a health club environment. It’s easy to operate with a quick adjust footrest, large nine inch display computer with calibrated elapsed time, distance traveled, distance and time countdown, stroke rate, heart rate, pace speed, and projected speed for 500m and 1000m courses. The display also details power output in calories/joule.

The Gym, which was designed by Bourne, a five-time Olympian and World Kayak Champion and 67-time British National Kayak Champion, comes in both kayak-specific and canoe-specific models. Each precisely replicates either kayaking or high kneel canoeing to provide athletes targeted training that builds both primary and secondary physiology, including targeted muscles group development and cardiovascular capacity. Speedstroke mimics the ergonomics of either kayaking or canoeing, perfectly replicating the "on-water" feel of each sport by eliminating the jarring common at stroke initiation in other ergometers, and via an adjustable paddle shaft that allows variable resistance and a user-selected feel. The Speedstroke Gym Canoe can be used both right and left handed with fully adjustable resistance.

In November 2008, KayakPro will release an add-on internet racing software package that, with on-line access, will enable Speedstroke users to train and race one another regardless of their physical location. The software will include courses on virtual rivers, as well as on internationally renowned courses including 2.7 miles on Boston’s Charles River.

Speedstroke Gym is available from select retailers and distributors in the US and worldwide, and from KayakPro.com . MSRP $2450.
