New futuristic fantasy novel promotes eco-friendly tweens

Rumer & Qix: The Race to Terra Incognita by Kathleen S. Wilson follows a duo who determines the fate of the planet and Mother Nature

NEW YORK (MMD Newswire) June 24, 2009 -- Rumer & Qix: The Race to Terra Incognita by Kathleen S. Wilson is intended to entertain and educate tweens on the importance of the environment through a futuristic fantasy world of adventure. "The younger generation needs to play a significant role in waking up their parents and encouraging them to join the effort to turn things around on the planet before it's too late," says Wilson.

In the year 3013 in the city of Nanjing, 16-year-old Rumer is an apprentice reporter for the Global Quotidien. When she becomes bored with Global's assignments, Rumer and her sidekick Qix secretly disappear to work the indie networks, where she becomes involved in investigating mysterious nature sightings - something unheard of after plants and animals were replaced years ago by manufactured Alfa Syncov. Rumer and Qix must travel far and wide to solve the mystery and save the world before Dr. BigCo, the evil CEO of Alfa, destroys MoNa (Mother Nature).

Wilson says Rumer & Qix mostly takes place in China and the rainforests of Peru, two biodiverse locations that made a deep impression upon her when she visited. As a resident of New York City, Wilson says that walking her dog, the inspiration for Qix, made her aware of the scarcity of green grass, trees and singing birds. "The opening scene of my book is based on an image of my dog's excitement when she discovered a single blade of grass poking through one of the sidewalk ventilation grates during a walk one day," she adds.
